I'm a wanna be Gardner
This last year I spent more time on the cultivation of plants than I have in past years and I had only a fair turn out. I took a month long class on vegetable gardening last February and grew all sorts of plants in a green house until April. I brought the plants home where they lived in my kitchen for a month until it was warm enough to plant in May. Sadly, I lots plenty of plants, mostly because I still don't know enough about gardening. But here are this years efforts put to good use.

Add plants from my gardening class, plus some shutters and awesome window boxes that Ben built for me and the look of the mini back yard changes.
Before
We enjoyed our 7 varieties of herbs, along with various flowers, tomatoes, jalapeƱos, two kinds of squash, onions, red, yellow, green, and purple bell peppers, and cucumbers. I'm looking out my frosty windows wishing I still had it all. Ahh, it was a great summer.

Halloween Party
Tuesday and Wednesday Ben and I actually wore our Charlie Chaplin and Flapper Costumes. We like them the most because they are so comfortable.

For Monday nights party Ben and I ventured on a new frontier. We decided to be the Chin Family. Which we took 2nd place for. I really think the only reason we received such high accolades was for my killer rendition of "Purple People Eater".
I'm such a dork.

Chinese Princess
Rosie was our beautiful Chinese Princess. She is not good at keeping makeup on so she actually looks a little scary in these pictures. She took first prize at the Ward Halloween party! Yeah for her. Wiley, where is Wiley? Silly mommy for got to even take a picture of the Chinese Ninja. Whooppps. (I had him pose for pictures, but unfortunately, none of those pictures were taken with my camera. This is the story that I'm sticking with so that later when he wonders what happened, he won't realize that a plain old ninja costume is nothing compared to the beautiful Chinese Princess costume. he he)
Here are some of the fun people that came to the Welch Family Halloween Party. Click on the picture to see it enlarged.

What is it with boys and footballs?
Wiley and his buddies like to play tackle football outside on the lawn. They were hammin' it up in some of these pictures.

The other day Wiley came home from school and three of his buddies came over to play tackle football. They came in sat down for a rest and a treat and started taking about the "game". Lincoln asked,"do you guys want the eagles to win or the cougars to win?"
I had to leave the room I was laughing in amazement at the conversation topic of five year olds. Since when do these little guys follow the games? How can they possibly have an opinion regarding college football teams? Each boy said which team they wanted to win. My mouth at this time had dropped to the floor. How could Wiley possibly know what he was talking about?
Later that night I asked Wiley the same question hoping to get the same lively conversation that he had participated in earlier.
"Mom, I like cougars, but I think eagles are cool, they can like fly and swoop around. Birds are cool."
I chuckled all night and was relieved to discover that although one boys was really asking about the college teams, at least my boy was sharing his opinion on just the animal he liked best. Thank goodness. Wiley, don't grow up too fast.

Flash Back Friday
2005 Halloween
This is the picture from our very first post. Ben is grapes, Wiley is a Power Ranger, Rosie is a Lamb, and I am Mary (as in Mary had a little lamb.)Oh now that I think about it I went as Bo Peep. . .
Ben has strange ideas about costumes. He always ends up being something a little more unheard of. Those pictures to follow.

Lake Powell Trip
Wiley always finds time for a nap in the cubby hole in the boat.
Wiley finally warmed up to the idea of riding the yellow banana. He really started to enjoy it. Shown here are the boys and the Dads.
Ben and Sharalee at the front of the boat, what you can't see are the two kids laying on us catching some ZZZZzzzzz.

Flashback Friday on a Saturday?
This Flashback is dedicated to the Dyer clan because a good portion of us got together this week for a birthday party. We had a good night. We love to get together and talk about ourselves. ha ha It's what us Dyers do best.
I think my mom's vest says it all here.
p.s. If you look closely you can see my rub-on tattoo.
I love that the boys are all wearing the check shirts.
Here is our serious version. The puff in Kerianne's sleeve is just awesome.

"Flashback Friday"
Ali has started a new trend with the Flashback Friday Pictures. If you want to learn more about her check out her blog under Troy and Ali. This first Flashback is in honor of my second year of College and the roommates I loved so much.
Since my second year of school, I've learned what a dork I was. Chasing boys and making secret trips to the candy machine were just a few of the dumb things I did.
Luckily, real friends forgive the stupidity right? Tell me I'm forgiven!? The only thing I might have as collateral /blackmail is some pictures of us at an uppity Princess party were I forced everyone to wear awesome 1970-80s dresses. I shall save those pictures for another time.
Lindi, Ali, Shara, Kelly, Michelle and Merideth. And now 9 years later we have 16 kids between us. Can that be right? Wow that's a lot. I'm not really doing my share am I?

A Busy June:
Our First Triathlon
For two months we worked on our triathlon training. We had a great time. We were even able to convince a few family members to join us in our efforts. Ben looks tough! I won't show any of my action shots because I look quite dorky and wimpy. I felt tough though, does that count?
The TREK:

Ben and I were asked to be Aunts and Uncles for the Pioneer TREK in Wyoming. We had a great time, but we froze in the nights and were sweating during the days. Pictured is our handcart with our kids we were to look after during the four days. Good thing we had been training for the triathlon otherwise I'm not sure we would have lasted all those miles walking.
