Fountain of Youth

My younger sister and I were shopping recently and a sale associate was assisting us. At one point in the conversation the woman asked me, "Are you her mother?"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I was sucking in air. My eyes got huge. I may or may not have made a fist with my hand and caulked my arm. I looked back at the sales associate and said with my sweetest voice that I could muster through my teeth, "She is my younger sister."   The horrible woman was trying to age me 26 years.

At this moment I should have just tried to laugh it off, or at least the nervy woman should have laughed it off and apologized. I don't know where this woman learned manners but in her attempt to try and clear her name she then said, "Oh,  . . . its not that you look really old (referring to me), well it is just cause she looks so old, (referring to my sister) You know how mothers and daughters can look so much alike."

Dang woman.

Needless to say I've been seeking the fountain of youth as of late.

You have beautiful, youthful skin. I bet she didn't even look at you. Can we do more facials in Sacramento? Did you know how very very excited I am to see you? I'm huge, by the way, don't be alarmed...

Shara, I can completely relate. I had the very same experience. My youngest sister(by 12 years) and I were at Super Target, and the food sample lady handed my sister a sample and said "Here, this is for your mother." I couldn't concentrate the rest of the shopping trip, and I still feel speechless. My sister tried to reassure me that she only saw me from the back, but I am not sure that made me feel any better! By the way, I just got your email, and I will give you a call soon-did I mention that I am also trying to move again. Seriously, I will be so relieved when I am finished with all this moving :)

HA!!! I am so glad that you blogged this so we can remember who badly she dealt with it. HA! Then I think she also ended up saying something like. "You (meaning me) should be thrilled that I think you look old enough to have a mother her age."

HA! Thanks for being a good sister and shopping.

Uhhhhh....Shara(Lee), maybe she was trying to say your sister looks like she is five years old.

She is drastically wrong.

It's not that you look old, it's that Keri looks old, LOVE IT! Come to Sacramento, we'll help you relax, unwind and shed those nasty years.

'bout just died laughing! If it makes you feel any better I've always been jealous of your gorgeous skin and lucious hair. And if if anyone thinks you're old I'm in trouble since we're the same age!
