~Gasp~
Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles. Apparently, I am with child again. I've stopped wincing at the news. The shock and awe is starting to wear off. I've stopped thinking of all the ways I've ruined Eva's upcoming toddler years. I'm trying to think positive here. Eva and new baby will be such good friends, especially because they will only be 16 months apart.
I have a CRAZY summer ahead of me (the baby is due the week school gets out), with 4 kids being in the house you can bet I'm looking into summer camps and day camps. I've even solicited a few people for help with nannying (hopefully they can). Yes, I'm that desperate and unequipped to deal with such a number. 4 kids? What were we thinking. . . oh that's right, we weren't thinking, not expecting . . .
Statistically, families with 4 kids have a 75% chance that three of the children will be the same gender. It is not the usual thing to have all one gender or two of each. Very rare. Our family happens to fit the statistic because we found out that we are having another GIRL.
Our beautiful baby girl is going to join us the last week of May. I'm starting to realize that although I may have a lot of girl clothes, I might want to invest in more girl toys and perhaps decorate a room a little more girl-y. I'm already having dreams of dressing three little girls in matching outfits!
The other minor problem is that I have to find yet another girls name. We LOVE Eva Sophia's name, but we very nearly named her Claire or Clara. Which would have been a great next baby's name, but alas, my brother and his wife also loved the name and bestowed their child with such a beautiful name. But where does that leave me? Where do I find another awesome name? One that is not overly popular, or that can't be used against her at a later time in life?
So. . . let the name nominations begin. I'm taking names. We usually consult the genealogy lines but, let's face it, the good names are taken unless I want Ethel (which I don't). So please feel free to submit names for our consideration. What names are on your family tree?
p.s. I'm also taking suggestions of names of all girls 10 and older that will take my kids to the park every couple of days come nursing time.

oh. my. goodness. what wonderful news. wow. and you can keep a secret for so long.
haha i was shocked very much like you were shocked when i found out we were prego with #4.
you will do awesome. congrats :)
Wow...great news! You'll do great, I've always thought of you as one of those super moms. Congrats!
woah i can't believe it!!! how exciting, though :) looks like i can make you another quilt this summer :) congrats to you guys!!!
Congratulations! We, too, are having a difficult time coming up with a suitable name, so I don't have any to suggest. Sorry. :P
Yipee! Congrats Welch Family!
Congratulations!!!! It's only fitting considering what beautiful girls you make. I'm so excited for you!
I had to laugh about your comment about dressing 3 little girls...I'm sure you'll be choking when you have to get 3 wedding dresses for those 3 girls :) I'm very happy for you!
Congratulations! So when our turn comes, I hope we have that small chance of having a little girl ( I am kind of jealous, it has always been my dream to dress up little girls in matching clothes and I just got lucky with my three boys). How fun to have another little girl! I am so happy for you. Let me know if you need anything.....:)
My sister and I were 11 months apart, and she was the greatest friend of my toddlerhood, youth, and on. I was so blessed to have an almost twin. I cannot emphasize that more. 16 months apart is awesome.
Congratulations!!!! You were absolutely right! I am so excited for you and I agree having a sister close to my age has always been fabulous!
Awesome! Congrats! Noa and Malia are 16 months apart, and to be honest, it was NUTS for the first year! Now they do everything together, like and dislike the same things, look out for one another... it feels like I have twins! It will be great, promise!
Plus, I have a secret... I have a nanny who comes three days a week for two hours at a time. I do all of my projects, grocery shopping, and errands on those days. It's how I keep my sanity. I refuse to take four kids in public alone unless I absolutely HAVE to. So don't feel bad if you need to take that route! It's great!
p.s. That statistic was right for our fam, only it was 3 boys and a girl.
p.p.s. I like Stella Jane, or Olivia Danielle...
too funny! Ethel is my Grandma's name!!
Congratulations! I am pleasantly surprised and thrilled! Dan and Sara are expecting a little boy the same week. I enjoy your BLOG.
Congratulations! You will be a wonderful mother of 4. Spencer and Taylor are 14 months apart. Parker and Sarah are 13 months apart. I'm still alive and so are they. You'll do great.
Wow! Congrats! I had no idea- I haven't seen you in awhile! Looks like you had a great holiday season though. Another girl... hmmm I like Berkeley, Addison, Adelaide (call both of those Addy)
OH Congrats! We are expecting #3 in April. Had it been a girl I was leaning for a Cosette... but it's a boy, so back to the drawing board for us. How on earth did you keep it secret for so long??
Congrats!! I am so excited for you guys. Shara you are such an amazing mom and I can't wait to see our two little ones playing when they come. They will be great friends!
Love you-Becca
My friends are having a girl and they are naming her GIOVANNA.
Wow, I know.
If Danny was a girl I woudld have named him--I mean her-- Emma Caroline. I like that name a lot.
What about Grace? Has that been over used in our family? I love it.
by the way, that last comment was from me, not Scott. :)
Love the new header on your blog. Perfect for you right now!
According to your statistic, our next will be a boy. That's nice to know :)
I'm glad to know I will have someone to commiserate with when all our girls are teenagers! :[
BTW, I wouldn't mind if you used Claire, but you probably wouldn't want to and it might be confusing every once in a while.
Welch People! Congratulations! I'm sort of jealous of you, I'd love to have one more (even if they DID have to be 16 months apart) but my husband might not take too kindly to the news.
Here are some girly names I love, do with them what you will:
Celia (ha ha!)
Ruby (I have one of those, I know, but I DO love the name!)
Jane
Lucy
Ivy
... and my long list suddenly vanished. I guess that's all I've got at the moment.
Congrats you guys!
Nora, Gretchen, Chiara (it is italian said kee-are-a) Juliette, Colette, Mariah, Cordelia, (you seem to like names that end in an a, so do I!)
Try to avoid girls names that start w/ el (ie ella) or em (emma, emmeline) they are too popular right now, so is Isabella. Addison, Madison, Olivia are also popular. There are a ton of those names at my dtrs daycare.
but ultimately pick a name you and ben love
Yay!! That's so exciting! Congratulations :-)
Ethel all the way!! Hope you are doing well still. Did you make a wipe case for Natalie's shower gift? I thought it was darling. I want the pattern!
Some good names Cora
Clarissa
Giselle
celeste
lila (lie-la)
Katarina
Sasha
Larissa
Elyse
Aurora
Congrats you guys!!! Can't believe you're already far enough along to know the gender!! The little cutie will be here in no time. I second Ruby. I love that name and Ruby Welch has an elegant ring to it. By the way, you shouldn't doubt yourself so much. Adaptation is not always easy, but you're one tough mama and I know you'll be able to handle it. ;) And you know what they say - if you can have 3, you can have 8! (Obviously I don't know if that's true since I'm still at 3, but it sounds encouraging, no?)
Wow! I'm excited and scared for you! I've always like the name Enna or Mira (pronounce Meera-from Shannon Hale novels). As for crafts: I'm currently into quilting-there are some cute and easy zigzag quilts and rag quilts (and having a girl, the colors and fabric are soo much more fun!) Paper mache letters are always fun-trying to knock off anything pottery barn is fun-Oh! My friend just made an old hutch thing into a kid kitchen. That was cute and I totally want to steal the idea. I love http://www.designspongeonline.com/
their DIY section always has fun ideas! Good luck!
yippee. that is the best way to do it...SURPRISE! It must be, because let me tell you, the decision to have baby number three WILLINGLY is VERY hard this time around. Heavenly Father would be best to just surprise us or it may never happen!
My two favorite girl names at the moment are:
Molly
Maggie
Annie
Hey Shara,
I know, I've been a slacker with my blog, feeling a little lazy these days. I did get an invite and wanted to come to the shower but I was sick, and still am....ugh. I was excited to see everyone but maybe another time. How's your family doing?
