PC or Mac Marriage?
A few months ago a friend and I were chatting and she said, "that's easy for you to say, you have a Mac marriage."
I have never heard this term before so I had her explain it.
Both types of Marriages (PC) and (Mac) get the job done. The tools are all there, the programs can work for both PC and Mac. The difference is the PC marriage has a few more hiccups in it. Sometimes it takes downloading more RAM or a visit to the shop every once in a while to keep things running smoothly, with no viruses.
Whereas the Mac Marriage works more seamlessly, almost effortlessly, with fewer crashes, and less viruses. Both types of marriages work. In both types the children are cared for and there are happy end results all the way around.
The PC marriages are the tit for tat marriages. One spouse can't sleep in without paying for it later. Or one spouse feels a sense of entitlement when it comes to personal time or me time.
The Mac marriages are the "lets get the job done" and I don't care if you only can put in 40% at the moment, I'll make up for it and then some. One spouse is not counting the hours spent doing their job, or wondering if the other will ever make it up to them.
Anyhow, I could go on for a good hour defining the two differences. You get the idea.
I wasn't sure that I could call my marriage a Mac marriage, just because my friend said I had one. Everyone is more critical of their own marriage, (We know where we each fail, right?) So I went home and Ben and I chatted about it also. After some analyzing we both agreed that my friend was right. We do have a Mac marriage.
I love you Ben. Being married to you is bliss. Is there any chance we could get a Mac computer soon?

This is so geeky. I love it. I'm going to talk to Minna about it.
And you guys should TOTALLY get a mac.
You made me want a Mac too. A Perfect Mac Marriage (working on that) would be great as well.
Shara, I love your posts. And you are very lucky to have Ben in your life, just as he is lucky to have you too! Also, I must say, as a mac owner since high school, I have loved all my mac's-in fact we recently donated our PC, and now we just have the two mac's :)
I think I have a mac marriage, but it's mostly due to my husband. I'm probably the pc in the relationship, but he's enough mac for both of us!
Ooh love the analogy. Wow. Steve Jobs -- revolutionizing technology for the people and now marriage. Pretty impressive. And now I vote for a new Mac for you.
I have to agree, you and Ben and a couple of Macs. You are a great example to those around you. I'll have to ask Dad what he and I are. Today I tried some Fen Shui in our bedroom: placing pictures on the dresser of he and I all through our marriage. They say that is great fen Shui. I also blew up our engagement photo and put it on the wall. Pictures of children and grandchildren belong in the family room or office! or so I was told by a Fen Shui enthusiast.
Interesting analogy. I have a total PC marriage. Not exactly by the definition you shared, but by the general idea. That's ok though. I gave up on being trendy a long time ago. :D haha!
And I don't mean to rain on the parade, but let's not put macs on a higher pedestal than they yet deserve. Since they've been going more mainstream and shifted their marketing focus (to the younger "hipper" audiences), they've compromised some of what used to make them REALLY amazing. But this comes from the wife of a techie who looks more into things than the average consumer. The debate over pc vs mac is still the same ole same ole. Whichever one is the "better machine" just really depends on what you personally need the computer for and to what extent you'll actually use all it's capabilities. I know, longer shpeal than you needed or cared for! Sorry...
Great post, I really love the analogy and gave me something to think about new in a marriage! How's the pregnancy going? counting down the days now??
